Michael Micallef Transitions to Advisory Board Chair after Successful Start of Prime Meridian Bank in Lakeland
Turning ideas into reality is what bankers do.
So the idea of opening a Prime Meridian Bank in Lakeland, FL was just a matter of time. The two men who shared this vision were veteran Central Florida banker, Michael A. Micallef, Jr., and Sammie D. Dixon, Jr., Prime Meridian Bank’s Vice Chairman, President and CEO.
The two have known each other for years and always looked for a way to work together.
Then, in mid-2018, after Micallef had captained the sale of a bank he founded, Community Southern Bank, the opportunity arose to expand the Prime Meridian Bank footprint to central Florida. The bank had three offices in the Tallahassee MSA and was in expansion mode.
“Sammie and I discussed my opening an office for him in this market and I was ready,” said Micallef. “I was totally on board and by Spring 2019 we made it happen.”
Micallef and Dixon worked to bring one of Community Southern’s former locations on South Florida Avenue back to life. “We hired several of my former employees and opened a beautiful office. We introduced Prime Meridian Bank’s brand of relationship banking and community service to Lakeland.”
Nearly a year later, the vision is paying off. The Bank’s location celebrates is first anniversary in April. With his main mission accomplished, Micallef is changing roles.
Effective the end of February, Micallef steps back as Polk County Market President to Chair the bank’s Lakeland Advisory Board. The Board is a 19-member team of local leaders and business owners who are a sounding board for the bank in Polk County.
Micallef remains on the Boards of both the Bank and its holding company, Prime Meridian Holding Company (OTCQX: PMHG).
The day-to-day operations of the Bank will be assumed by David Sullivan, formerly Senior EVP of Platinum Bank, Plant City, FL. He has been named Senior Vice President for Prime Meridian Bank and Regional President for Central Florida.
“David has been a strong presence on our Advisory Board since its inception,” said Micallef. “He was the obvious choice to run the bank for us.”
“Working together, our focus is what it’s always been: to strengthen and grow the Prime Meridian Bank brand in Central Florida.
Sullivan is a 37-year veteran banker and former Chair of the Plant City Economic Development Corp. Both Micallef and Sullivan have led successful Central Florida banking institutions and have created their own individual legacies.
“We celebrate the work Michael has done for us in Lakeland,” said Dixon. “He is a special person and with all he has accomplished, this bank – and the entire community – owe him a debt of gratitude.”
“As we grow, we have Michael to thank for turning the Prime Meridian Bank vision to a reality in Lakeland.”
